Heyy Biologists!!
Do you work with HeLa?
Do you know the story behind it?
Here comes Sourabh talking about the story of a woman whose contribution to science has been immense. Her cells were the driving force behind commercial vaccine production, innumerable drug trials, and even the first living cells to enter space. Yet the list of all medical achievements and profits was kept secret from her family. The scientific community owes a huge sum to HENRIETTA LACKS and her family. Her consent to having her cells for research was considered insignificant then, but time has ignited the debate around the word "CONSENT" for research amongst many trials that are conducted today.
You can learn more about the story in the book written by author Rebecca Skloot titled 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks', also a film under the same title starring Oprah Winfrey is a total delight for one and half hours.
